I has a Samsung Epic
I have had the Samsung epic for almost 2 months now, and damn I’m impressed.
The Smartphone I had before this was a Blackberry 8330. Not very impressive but it worked. It really didn’t do what I needed it to do, so I looked into this new “Android” thing. I tried in vain for months to get an HTC Evo to no avail. Sprint put the Samsung Epic on preorder so that’s how I got one.
So far the only 2 things that annoy me are the crappy battery life and the fact the touch screen keyboard is waaaaaaay too sensitive. I work from home, so I can keep it plugged in a lot, but I can see how annoying it would be to not be able to recharge it at work if I had a real job. I have managed to go for 2 months without having to actually purchase any apps. It’s not that I’ve been avoiding purchasing apps, it’s just that I haven’t had a need to buy any app. All the ones I used on my ipod are free. I don’t need to buy any app now that Angry Birds is completely free.
I won’t bother you with lengthy reviews of every feature, just a couple that I really like. The turn by turn spoken navigation is outstanding. The woman who speaks, says the names of the streets. My Tomtom doesn’t even do that. The video quality on this actually makes me weep it is so nice. And the voice recognition software is pretty good. In fact, I’m doing this blog entry speaking while I’m on a treadmill. All I have to do is clean it up a little on the web before I post it. Oh, and the phone works really well when I actually have to hold the Epic up to my head and speak into it. Odd… speaking on a phone.
I have only played with an iPhone a few times, but I really think apple should pull Steve Jobs’ head out of his own arrogant ass and get moving, otherwise Android is going to crush Apple in the phone world just like PC’s pretty much crush apple in the computer world.

Apple fanboi here. Not sure I get the Apple / PC analogy. Does Android = PC? While PC still dominates the computer market, I think Apple’s share is higher than ever. They are certainly not declining.
On the phone front, Android is coming on strong. As soon as that impacts Apple, you’ll see the iPhone on every carrier. I do like my T-Mobile G2 though (which I’m using to post this).
